Your 1st Raw Goat Milk Pickup: A Step-by-Step Guide

raw goat milk pickup in Lincoln Nebraska

At Shalom Farms, our land is both our place of work and our family home.

We’ve found that the best way to maintain a sense of Shalom (peace) for both our family and yours is to have a clear, simple structure for how food moves from our pastures to your kitchen.

Because we focus on quality over quantity – utilizing once-a-day milking – we manage our limited yields through a pre-order system and waitlist.

This ensures that when you drive out here, your milk is held specifically for you.

Reserving Your Milk

We don’t operate like a high-volume grocery store.

When you request our Raw Goat Milk, you are reserving a portion of a limited daily resource.

  • Availability: Our yield varies day to day; once the daily limit is reached, it’s out for the day.
  • The 4pm Boundary: Because we work until 4pm and then immediately transition to being “phone-free” for our evening farm chores, we need all pickup details finalized by this time. This ensures we see your message and have your labeled jars ready before we head out to the barn.
  • Your Info Matters: To keep things organized, we require a valid name, phone number, and email. If we can’t reach you, we can’t guarantee your milk will be ready.

Requesting Your First Raw Goat Milk Pickup

Because our milk is a fresh, daily resource, we may not be able to hold spots indefinitely.

When milk becomes available, we reach out to our waitlist families for that day.

  • First-Response Booking: Slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. When you receive a notification that a slot is open, we recommend taking action as soon as possible to secure your raw milk goodness.
  • Daily Reset: If you aren’t able to claim a slot for the day, you remain on the list for the next availability. This live system ensures every drop is accounted for before we begin our evening farm work.

The Pickup Experience

We offer a self-serve window on weekdays from 5pm to 8pm (weekend hours vary and will be confirmed at the time of your order).

  • Self-Serve: We ask that you purchase a spare set of jars (or bring an extra set).  Your order will be waiting in a dedicated cooler. While we love to meet our customers during their first pickup, please note that for subsequent visits, we will generally be in the middle of active chores and may not be available to meet you.
  • Payment: Instructions for cash or Venmo payments will be included in your final confirmation email.
  • Farm Etiquette: To keep our animals and your children safe, please stay within the designated pickup area. Pets are strictly not allowed on the property for the safety and biosecurity of our livestock.

Why These Boundaries Matter

Jeffrey and I start our day at 5am to have milking, sanitizing, and chores all completed before heading to our full-time jobs at our local church

We return home just before 5pm to begin evening chores, which continue until dark (or sometimes after dark).

Note: With limited time between work, commutes, farming, and caring for elderly parents, Jeffrey and I have decided that we will not be tied to our phones while at the farm. We choose to be present in what we are doing, who we are with, and being in nature. This means if you are texting or emailing about reschedules or changes, we will not receive those messages until we head back into the house for the night.

These boundaries help us manage our limited inventory fairly to ensure everyone on the waitlist has a chance at receiving this raw milk superfood.

Because we are holding a perishable product specifically for you, we appreciate your communication:

  • The No-Show: If you miss your window without notice, the order is canceled and released to the next family. We reserve the right to not accept future orders from no-show customers—so please, if you have an emergency, let us know!
  • Reschedules: If you are not able to pickup milk at your scheduled time and are requesting a reschedule, we may require the new pickup to be pre-paid in full (or a cash deposit to be held for future orders) before a new time is approved.

Keeping Your Milk Cold

To ensure your milk stays at peak freshness for the drive home, we highly recommend bringing a dedicated cooler or insulated bags with ice packs – especially during the warmer months.

Our goal is to hand off our milk to you in pristine, chilled condition; helping to maintain that cold chain from our cooler to your fridge ensures you get the best flavor and longest shelf-life possible (7-10 days).

Next Steps

If you’ve already joined our Raw Goat Milk Waitlist, you’re all set!

While you wait for your first availability notification, we recommend prepping your “milk kit.”

Finding a dedicated cooler that fits at least one half-gallon mason jar and keeping a couple of ice packs ready in your freezer is the best way to protect your milk’s quality and make sure that you’re ready to pickup when it’s available.

We’ll reach out the moment some milk is available for you to claim!

If you have any questions, please reach out.
