June 21, 2026 โ€” Father’s Day bull calf

Mabel delivered our first bull calf of the season today – right during our Penner Father’s Day lunch!

She had no complications, and he’s a BIG bull calf ๐Ÿ™‚

He’s mostly white with some red/brown color on his head.

I think we’re going to call him Taco ๐ŸŒฎ

June 20, 2026 โ€” 2 Lambs Sold

We sold our first 2 lambs for the year to our friend Mikaela who also purchased 4 of our baby goats earlier this spring.

We are sad to see them go, but they will have a happy home with a young family and some new goat cousins!

Thanks Mikaela ๐Ÿฅฐ

June 16, 2026 โ€” Our first calf had her first calf!

Patty Midnight was born on May 4, 2024 and she welcomed her first calf this morning around 9am!

Another heifer! The females are showing up strong this year ๐Ÿคฉ

Everyone, say hello to Milkshake!

June 15, 2026 โ€” Hay Week

Jeff is busy this week with hay cutting.

Yesterday, he cut our grass hay fields, today he is cutting our neighbor’s fields, and then raking/baling both.

It’s going great with our new Enrossi Hay Rake (you can see the cows in our pasture)!

June 14, 2026 โ€” It’s a girl ๐Ÿคฉ

At 1pm today, Padme had a baby and we named her Eden (like the garden)!

She’s our last goat kid of the season and… we’re going to keep her ๐Ÿ™‚

(photos coming soon)

June 8, 2026 โ€” 1st Cutting Alfalfa field

After a VERY dry and somewhat concerning spring, late May and June arrived with a lot of rain and we were finally able to get a cutting on our alfalfa field this week.

May 25, 2026 โ€” Weaning Ram Lambs

Today we weaned the ram lambs from their mommas. Even at just 7 to 8 weeks old, these young rams are fully capable of breeding adult ewes, so we always choose to wean them right at the 8-week mark.

Six little rams moved from the momma pen into the ram pen, where they will join their sire, Samuel, and their new uncle, Sweet Skeet.

It will be a little louder on this side of the farm for a few days while they adjust to life without momma and her milk. Gratefully, these little guys are already well established on hay and drinking plenty of water. Their mommas trained them well!

May 16, 2026 โ€” Shepherd’s Pie Recipe

We like to give gifts from the farm when we can, and sometimes we are able to give out some ground lamb or goat meat.

Many times people have never cooked lamb or goat themselves, so we always get asked for recommendations on what to try.

Our #1 absolute favorite recipe is our Shepherd’s Pie (it’s actually officially known as Cottage Pie if you use beef!).

We ourselves cook shepherd’s pie almost weekly in the fall/winter when we’re wanting more warm hearty meals.

So, we spent some time recently to put an actual recipe together for anyone who wants to try.

Let us know what you think!
