March 28, 2026 — The Little Nugget That Could 🐑

We landed on calling our little lamb “Nugget” for now. I think he likes it!

He is such a joyful little guy. He loves our attention and I bet he understands how gentle we are with him and appreciates it.

He is so strong! We’ve been bottle feeding him raw goats milk, and he had been standing on his own and even taking some uncertain steps by mid morning so we were hopeful! But when he would fall, he still had trouble getting back up.

So we spent the day working with him; feeding him, standing him back up, and running paces in front of him to encourage exercise. We even handled the “dirty work” of his digestive health that his momma normally would. By later in the afternoon, he was actually starting to try to run (albeit wobbly) 🥹

Around 8pm we decided that since he’s looking stronger and more able to get about on his own, we were going to try to put him with momma one last time. So we got Hana into a private pen with her other ram lamb that she’s been raising since yesterday, and brought little Nugget in as well. She was very confused (I’m sure because now he smelled more like Jeff and I and some baby goats than like her).

After about 15 minutes of her running from him and knocking him down, we were able to hold her still long enough for him to get some good swigs of momma’s milk. He was a happy guy! But ultimately, seeing how he would fall and take a while to get up, and that she clearly wanted nothing to do with him, we decided to call it.

Nugget would be our first little bottle lamb and WE would be his momma and daddy!
